The Spencer family is part of a wagon train passing through Chugwater, Wyoming, bound for the valley of Longshot Basin. Unfortunately, the trail that leads there has been buried under an avalanche. But even as he arrives home, enduring fearful and downcast stares from despondent black faces, he knows what he must do and the price he must pay for doing it.
