Scarlett Chase’s newest temp job is working for a multi-generational family during their week-long stay at a large cabin in the beautiful mountains. She gets to use the skills she gained while earning her CNA as she takes care of a teenage girl with a full-leg cast and the family’s aging grandfather while the rest of the group hits the ski slopes.

Even though the boat is anchored in a remote location, items start to go missing, and it appears a thief is on board. When Scarlett finds a stranger’s body on a nearby shore, she doesn’t suspect it’s related to the thefts. It doesn’t take long for her to figure out it was murder. When she discovers that nearly everyone on board the houseboat has a motive, she can’t help but investigate.

Autumn has arrived, and Scarlett Chase is working a temp job at a local pumpkin farm where guests can enjoy a corn maze, pony rides, yummy fall treats, and many other attractions. Nothing could be more wholesome. But not everything is as ideal on the farm as it might seem. Scarlett learns that it is struggling financially and on the brink of shutting down. Aggressive property developers are hounding the owners, trying to convince them to sell.

The police hone in on Austin’s ex-girlfriend as their number one suspect, but Scarlett isn’t sure they’ve found the right culprit. Her feelings about the woman are complicated, and she is tempted to let the police handle this mystery. But pleas from Austin and her insatiable curiosity won’t let her sit idly by without poking around in search of some answers.
