The realist long novel "Overture" tells the coming-of-age story of Xinjiang youth Du Dazhuan. Born in Xinjiang, he attended middle school in Beijing and university in Xinjiang before going to study in the US and do business in Russia. He later returned to his homeland and devoted himself to development and poverty alleviation.

The novel depicts the story of the "second generation of Xinjiang" born in the oases of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in the 1960s-1970s growing up with their fathers' generation. It portrays the passionate era of two generations dedicating themselves to defending and developing the borders, and the arduous process of building a happy homeland.
