Twins Mindy and Mandy rely on shaky advice to find ghosts at an abandoned house. Discovered with a bloody knife in their hands, they turn to Hawk Theriot to clear them for the murder of the old man, Gramps Atkins, who once lived there. Hawk suspects one of Gramps's three sons. Only he does not know which one. All have motive, means, and opportunity. After interviewing all three, Hawk reaches a surprise conclusion, despite the continued interference of the twins in the guise of help. Even the ghosts did not see this one coming.

After the cards were dealt, one player didn't make the cut. At a local poker tournament, a player is murdered after the first game day. A suspect is booked for the murder, but something doesn't add up. To root out the real killer, Niki joins the tournament. But is the deck stacked against her?

Some art is worth dying for. After Niki Dupre buys a painting at a Starving Artist sale, she learns that the artwork is priceless, and that there are others who also want it in their possession. The church wants it back. Two mobsters want it back. And all of them are willing to kill to get it.
