Can a guy and girl ever be just friends? I used to think so, but now I’m not so sure. Emerson and I met freshman year of high school and we’ve been tight ever since. I’ve been pretty good about keeping her locked in the girls-I-don’t-think-about-having-sex-with part of my brain. Which is no easy feat, because let’s face it, unless we’re related, you’re potential spank bank material. Luckily for me, Southern University has an overabundance of Red Devils hockey groupies, which means there are always plenty of puck bunnies for me to choose from.

Whitney is the one girl on campus who’s always been on my radar. But she’s not a puck bunny working her way through the Hellcat team roster, so I’ve made it a point to steer clear. After college, I’ll be headed to the NHL. I’m a free agent with a ton of options. I’m not interested in being tied down. Well…that’s not altogether true, but you get where I’m going with this.

Colby McNichols, otherwise known as the baby-faced assassin, is the left wing for the Western Wildcats hockey team. All he has to do is sign his name on the dotted line and he’ll play for the pros after his senior season. What I’ve heard from the girls on campus, who aren’t shy about spilling the tea, is that he’s totally earned his reputation. For reasons I can’t fathom, Colby has decided to insert himself in my life. Everywhere I go, there he is. Which makes holding him at a distance nearly impossible. He might be smoking hot but there’s zero point in starting something with this guy.

Sure, I’ll admit it. Women have come and gone from my life since I was in high school. They’re nothing more than a warm body to sink into at the end of a long day. Even though I’m upfront about not being interested in a relationship, there are always a few persistent females who think they’ll be the one to change my mind.

It all starts with a little game of truth or dare. That was my first mistake. I've never been able to resist a dare and he damn well knows it. Trust me, I realize it's a personal flaw I need to work on. My second mistake? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it was when I agreed to a frenemies-with-benefits situation in order to get him out of my system once and for all.

Sie füllen die Tribüne beim Footballtraining, tauchen auf Partys auf, auf denen er angeblich ist, und stalken ihn auf dem Campus. Es ist widerlich. Haben diese Mädchen keinen Selbstrespekt, wenn es um einen heißen Typen geht? Okay... Ich gebe es zu, er sieht gut aus.

Ich hasse ihn ... und muss so tun, als sei ich total verliebt! Brody McKinnon ist der Star-Eishockeyspieler des Whitmore College. Natürlich ist er populär bei den Mädchen. Er kann jede haben, und nicht immer nur eine. Ich bin die Ausnahme, denn ich kann ihn nicht ausstehen. Sein arrogantes Gehabe, seine weiblichen Fans, die sich an ihn ranschmeißen, seine ständige Präsenz in den Vorlesungen – er sitzt immer in meiner Nähe, egal, welchen Platz ich wähle ... Das alles geht mir ziemlich auf die Nerven. Und dann erlebe ich auch noch die schlimmste Woche meines Lebens.

Alles beginnt mit einer kleinen Runde Wahrheit oder Pflicht …Mein erster Fehler: Einer Mutprobe konnte ich noch nie widerstehen, und das weiß er verdammt gut. Mein zweiter Fehler: Mich auf eine Freundschaft Plus einzulassen, um ihn ein für alle Mal loszuwerden.

Am liebsten würde ich meine Finger um seinen... seine Kehle legen und fest zudrücken. Carter Prescott ist einer dieser Typen, die alles haben. Wohlhabende Familie... check. Gutes Aussehen... check. Hoher Intelligenzquotient... check. Sportliche, muskulöse Figur... check. Einer der besten NFL-Anwärter dieses Jahr... check. Natürlich war ich anfangs von seinem hübschen Gesicht und seinem tollen Körper begeistert. Welches Mädchen mit einem Puls wäre das nicht? Aber sein Charakter hat ziemlich schnell jede Anziehung, die ich jemals gespürt haben könnte, abgetötet. Er ist ein eingebildeter Idiot.

Crosby Rhodes è considerato un dio del football, e forse lo è davvero. Le ragazze bramano quel corpo sodo, affinato da anni di sollevamento pesi e due allenamenti al giorno. Non ho mai capito perché sembra fare di tutto per umiliarmi e ferirmi. Mi piacerebbe sapere cosa ho fatto per suscitare tanto odio, ma ciò implicherebbe parlargli, e mi rifiuto di farlo. Manca solo un semestre alla laurea, e sono certa che riusciremo ad evitarci e mantenere la pace, ma ovunque vada, me lo ritrovo accanto, come se non riuscissi a togliermelo di dosso.

Carson Roberts è il tight end più ricercato della Western University. Ha già un biglietto di sola andata garantito per l’NFL dopo la laurea. Bel viso. Muscoli scolpiti. Per caso vi ho anche detto che è il migliore amico di mio fratello, il che significa che sono cresciuta con lui e che ho una cotta per lui da quasi altrettanto tempo? Stiamo parlando di un decennio di desiderio non corrisposto. Non preoccupatevi, sto lentamente accettando il fatto che non mi vedrà mai come qualcosa di più della sorellina che non ha mai avuto.

Brayden Kendricks sarà anche il dono di Dio per le ragazze della Western University, ma io non voglio avere niente a che fare con il giocatore di football dai capelli scuri. È affamato di attenzioni solo perché è sexy e talentuoso. Dannazione. L’ho detto sul serio? Va bene, sì... ammetto a malincuore che Brayden ha un aspetto decente. È possibile che abbia avuto una piccola, minuscola cotta per lui al primo anno del college? Preferisco non rispondere a questa domanda. Per fortuna sono tornata in me e da allora mi sono sforzata di stargli alla larga.

Arrogante, sfacciato e playboy, Rowan Michaels è il giocatore di football più popolare della Western University. Ovunque va, le ragazze provano ad attirare la sua attenzione e cadono ai suoi piedi. Io non sono una di loro. Cerco sempre di evitarlo e di stargli il più lontana possibile... ma non è una cosa facile. Mio padre è il suo allenatore, e Rowan cena con noi ogni mercoledì. In più, abbiamo scelto la stessa specializzazione e seguiamo le stesse lezioni.
