El señor Williams es un gran aficionado a adquirir viejos grabados y estampas. Como es habitual, recibe un catálogo del señor Britnell, sugiriendo éste que examine cierto grabado que puede ser de su interés. Dicho grabado contiene la vista de una casa de principios del siglo XVIII, y al final lo solicita, junto a otros artículos del catálogo. Poco a poco irá desvelándose la naturaleza del grabado. Otro cuento imprescindible.

James vuelve al marco de la mansión maldita por hechos acaecidos en generaciones pasadas, en este caso relacionados con la caza de brujas en Inglaterra.

This volume starts with the famous M. R. James story of occult revenge, "Casting the Runes", about a slighted occultist out for murderous revenge using his diabolical black arts to achieve it. It was adapted into the equally chilling movie Night of the Demon in 1957. Next up is another famous classic, W. W. Jacobs' "The Monkeys Paw", a brilliantly written tale of greed and getting what you wish for. The third story is "Hop-Frog" by Edgar Allan Poe - a classic yarn about the grisly revenge conjured up by a mistreated court jester.

Montague Rhodes James (Goodnestone, 1 de agosto de 1862 - Eton, 12 de junio de 1936), anticuario, medievalista y escritor británico de cuentos de terror. Su infancia transcurrió entre altas y tupidas bibliotecas repletas de libros antiguos, en su mayoría textos religiosos, en el condado de Kent, Los padres de M.R. James, optaron por brindarle una educación acorde con sus preferencias y lo enviaron al prestigioso Eton College. Continuó sus estudios en la ciudad de Cambridge, en el King's College, otro colegio al cual sólo unos pocos tenían acceso.
