Der Bund ist zerbrochen und die Wege der Gefährten trennen sich. Nachdem Frodo und Sam sich alleine auf den Weg zum Schicksalsberg machen, müssen Aragorn, Legolas und Gimli sich auf die Suche nach den beiden Hobbits Merry und Pippin begeben und treffen dort auf einen alten Wegbegleiter...

Erzählt wird der gesamte Mythos, an dessen Ende die Geschichte von "Der Herr der Ringe" die Drei Zeitalter abschließt: jener fernen Epoche, in der die Ringe geschaffen wurden, Sauron an die Macht kam, Elben und Zwerge ihre magischen Kräfte erlangten und der Krieg von Mordor wütete.

"Le retour du roi", dernière partie du "Seigneur des anneaux" voit s'achever la quête de Frodo. Toujours accompagné de Sam et Gollum, sa traversée du Mordor pour atteindre la montagne du destin est plus périlleuse que jamais. Tandis que Gandalf affronte Sauron dans une lutte sans merci, c'est une guerre dévastatrice qui a lieu au pied de Minas Tirith, assiégée par des armées d'orques et de trolls. Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Merry et Pippin combattent avec l'énergie du désespoir pour défendre la cité blanche, et avec elle la Terre du milieu toute entière, face à l'invasion des forces des ténèbres.

"Les deux Tours", deuxième partie du "Seigneur des anneaux", poursuit le récit des aventures de Frodo et de ses compagnons, lancés dans leur périple en Terre du Milieu. Tandis que Merry et Pippin rencontrent les fascinants Ents de la forêt de Fangorn, Aragorn, Gimli et Legolas affrontent les Orques et les Cavaliers du Rohan, avant de rencontrer un mystérieux cavalier blanc. Frodo et Sam, de leur côté, suivent Gollum le long des chemins périlleux qui mènent vers le royaume du Mordor, le seul lieu où l'Anneau pourrait être détruit.
