Story1
Edgar Allan Poe was one of the most influential American writers of the 19th century. He was the first author to try to make a professional living as a writer. Much of Poe's work was inspired by the events that happened around him. His poetry alone would ensure his spot in the literary canon. Poe's notable verses range from the early masterpiece “To Helen” to the dark, mysterious “Ulalume.” From “The Raven,” which made him world-famous upon its publication in 1845, to “Annabel Lee,” the posthumously published eulogy for a maiden “in a kingdom by the sea.”

The meeting lasted a little over an hour and covered both his personal reflections and his professional work. Dickens spoke in a straightforward way about the long years of writing that had defined his life. He discussed how certain characters had stayed with him more than others and how, over time, his view of his own books had changed.

Located in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, it was created to provide a fresh start for women who had been involved in prostitution or petty crime. Dickens, deeply concerned with social reform, personally helped to design and manage the program, reviewing applications, writing admission rules, and keeping detailed reports on the women’s progress.

Few names cast more terror into the human heart than Dracula. The legendary vampire, created by author Bram Stoker for his 1897 novel of the same name, has inspired countless horror movies, television shows, and other bloodcurdling tales of vampires. Though Dracula may seem to many like a singular creation, Stoker in fact drew inspiration from a real-life man with an even more grotesque taste for blood: Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia or—as he is better known—Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes), a name earned for his favorite way of dispensing with his enemies.

Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, born on July 29, 1883, who went by the nickname “Il Duce” (“the Leader”), was a deeply unbalanced tyrannical Italian dictator who created the dreaded Fascist Party in 1919. Eventually, he held all power in Italy as the country’s prime minister from 1922 to 1943. An ardent socialist as a youth, Mussolini followed in his father's political footsteps but was expelled by the party for his overt support of World War I. As an evil dictator during World War II, he greatly overextended his forces and was eventually killed by his own people in Mezzegra, Italy.

Charlie Watts provided the foundation that underpinned the music of the Rolling Stones. The band became a by-word for rock 'n' roll excess but for Watts, playing with the Stones did not become the ego trip that drove Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. A jazz aficionado, Watts vied with Bill Wyman for the title of least charismatic member of the band; he eschewed the limelight and rarely gave interviews. And he famously described life with the Stones as five years of playing, 20 years of hanging around.
