One of a series of exciting adventure stories featuring Leroux's criminal mastermind Chéri-Bibi. The phantom who taught Christine to sing and who was imperceptibly by her side, gets jealous and things go out of control.

Three young men are caught by a storm and are offered shelter by a strange man. Something about him is very disturbing and they are about to find out what it is. Their host claims that he has made a pact with the Devil and can't get himself out of the deal. Is he going crazy or he is telling the truth? Asistimos a la investigación del intento de asesinato contra Mathilde Stangerson, con una particularidad: la víctima se encontraba sola en una habitación cerrada por dentro. La caza por encontrar al agresor se convertirá en un juego de ingenio en el que el lector deberá participar de forma activa. Un divertidísimo y estimulante clásico de la novela policiaca.

First published in French as a serial in 1909, "The Phantom of the Opera" is a riveting story that revolves around the young, Swedish Christine Daaé. Her father, a famous musician, dies, and she is raised in the Paris Opera House with his dying promise of a protective angel of music to guide her. After a time at the opera house, she begins hearing a voice, who eventually teaches her how to sing beautifully. All goes well until Christine's childhood friend Raoul comes to visit his parents, who are patrons of the opera, and he sees Christine when she begins successfully singing on the stage.

Un vieil homme, tout voûté, traînant la jambe, parcourt les rues de Paris, un panier de cacahuètes au bras. Sa silhouette est familière aux habitués des terrasses des Champs-Élysées comme à la jeunesse du quartier Latin. "Papa cacahuètes" se moque pas mal des quolibets, sur son passage. Il poursuit son bonhomme de chemin avec une idée fixe en tête. Une idée formidable ! Faire de son fils le maître de la France ! Car il a un fils, ce loqueteux !

Arigonde dit le Parisien, fric-Frac, le Caïd, le Bêcheur, Palas n'a pas pires ennemis à Cayenne et il passerait de mauvais quarts d'heure sans la protection du "dab du Pré", autrement dit le roi du bagne Chéri-Bibi. Celui-ci l'a pris en affection parce qu'il le sait injustement condamné et a décidé de l'aider à s'évader pour qu'il refasse sa vie.

La suite des aventures de Palas que nous avons laissé dans une fâcheuse situation avec Chéri-Bibi.

Fatalitas ! Après s'être emparé du Bayard, bateau-cage à destination du bagne de Cayenne, l'indomptable Chéri-Bibi trouve sur sa route l'individu qu'il hait le plus : le marquis du Touchais, l'homme qui lui a ravi sa belle Cécily. Mais la vengeance se déguste comme la viande... froide.

Le commandant du Bayard ne respirera à l'aise qu'une fois à Cayenne, sa cargaison de forçats débarquée, car quelque chose se prépare, il le sent. La mise aux fers de Chéri-Bibi, chef occulte et incontesté des forçats, ne le rassure pas et il a raison: Chéri-Bibi s'évade et s'empare du navire.

Ce roman est une brillante illustration du principe du crime en lieu clos.
