Earth's survivors face devastating new challenges in the wake of recovering from an alien conflict. The world fell, the invaders won, and demons now ruled what had once been man's domain. The war may be over, but the fighting continues as SOLCOM learns of an excursion by the Ross'El against an unaffiliated prespace civilization in the no man's land between Earth and the Alien Alliance. With always more questions than answers, SOLCOM dispatches a ship to quietly survey the situation and determine what, if any, course of action is best. Captain Sorilla Aida and her team are the ground element assigned to the task.

The Bloc war is now in full swing, with Bloc forces having secured holdings across the Pacific, the China Sea, and even as far east as Iran. The threat that the United States presents, even weakened as it has been by economic turmoil, however, is not one that they can underestimate, and with American production lines already turning out fighter aircraft that are a threat to the Bloc's Type 198 Fighters, the Council finds that it must act.

Two years after the initial invasion of Hayden's World, the newly reinforced Hayden Militia is in a state of stalemate with the remaining enemy forces, but neither side is content to leave things at that. The alien alliance has dispatched their varsity to clean up the resistance on Hayden while the USF has officially activated Task Force V, the latest and most advanced combat ships built by humans. In the end there are some things you decide in the skies, but some can be settled only in the mud.

The Hayden War has ended, and now SOLCOM and the Alliance are face to face in talks, but neither side has the slightest idea what happened in the ultimate battle of the war. Amid political jockeying and diplomatic gamesmanship, Captain Sorilla Aida has been given an assignment: Find a weakness to exploit, buy SOLCOM time to learn just what the hell happened to Valkyrie, and make sure that the Alliance isn't prepared to risk another conflict in the open.

SOLCOM dowiaduje się, że Ross Ell podjęli ekspedycję przeciw niestowarzyszonemu gatunkowi, który zamieszkuje ziemię niczyją pomiędzy obszarami kontrolowanymi przez Ziemian a tymi, gdzie panuje Sojusz. W poszukiwaniu odpowiedzi i najlepszej metody działania SOLCOM wysyła okręt, który ma po cichu zbadać sytuację. Major Sorilla Aida i jej oddział zostają wyznaczeni do tego zadania. Ich wyprawa ma za wszelką cenę pozostać tajemnicą dla potężnych obcych. Jedna rzecz wydaje się pewna: wolność nigdy nie jest dana na zawsze, a opresja to uniwersalny sposób działania w kosmosie.

Wojna o Haydena się skończyła. SOLCOM i Sojusz rozpoczynają rozmowy pokojowe, ale żadna ze stron nie ma pojęcia, jak rozstrzygnęła się ostateczna bitwa w wojnie o Haydena. Dyplomatyczne niuanse nie są specjalnością major Sorilli Aidy, która dostaje zadanie: znaleźć jakąś słabość przeciwnika, dać ludziom czas, by dowiedzieli się, co się stało z Walkirią i jednocześnie mogli się upewnić, że Sojusz nie zaryzykuje kolejnego otwartego konfliktu.
