Mariusz dowiaduje się, że jego ojciec, nie mogąc się z nim spotykać, wielokrotnie obserwował syna podczas nabożeństw w kościele, ukrywając się za filarem.

Victor Marie Hugo was born on 26th February 1802, in Besançon, France. There can be no doubt that Hugo is ranked as the greatest of French authors and poets. In ‘Claude Gueux’ one prisoner dares to challenge a system and its cruel Governor who takes away his only friend purely out of spite. The consequences are appalling.

Paru en 1874, il a pour toile de fond les plus terribles années de la Révolution française : la Terreur. À l'origine, ce roman devait constituer le dernier volume d'une trilogie romanesque consacrée à la Révolution française, dont L'Homme qui rit constituerait le premier volume, mais Victor Hugo n'a pas mené ce projet jusqu'à son terme (le deuxième tome sur la monarchie n'ayant jamais été rédigé).
