What a people choose to remember about their past, the stories they pass down, informs who they are and sets the boundaries of their identity. We remember the pain of our past to mourn, to heal, and to learn. Only in that way can we ensure the same mistakes are not repeated.

Ingen visste riktigt sanningen om den oberoende och självsäkra Stella Gordon. Hennes våldsamma öde kom därför att bli ett förvirrande mysterium. Visst, hon hade en man, väninnor och dessutom en älskare, men ingen kände henne egentligen på djupet. Stella var en frigjord själ som gick sin egen väg och för det blev hon av vissa föraktad och upplevdes som nästintill skräckinjagande. Men vad andra tyckte rörde henne sällan. Hon var lika mycket skrämmande, som mystisk och förtrollande. Och hon spelade Blues.

"Efter några minuter kommer ett par poliser i overaller gående mot bilen. Jag öppnar dörren och går dem till mötes. En av dem frågar efter ytterligare kännetecken på Anders, födelsemärken och sånt, och jag berättar. Då säger den ena polisen lugnt: 'Det är med största sannolikhet Anders som är död.'" Anders mördas på nyårsnatten som skiljer åren 1994 och 1995. För hans mamma Lillian, som börjar det nya året utan sin älskade son, blir tiden som följer en ständig kamp för överlevnad.
