There's nothing quite like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Described by The Times on its first publication in 1865 as ‘an excellent piece of nonsense', this inspired tale of a young girl's adventures in a strange and magical world has gone on to become one of the most popular books ever written, translated into over 125 languages and said to be the most frequently quoted book after the Bible, the Koran, and Shakespeare.

The story of Alice in Wonderland began when the Reverend Charles Dodgson and his friend Robinson Duckworth rowed in a boat up the River Thames with the three Liddell sisters: Lorina (aged 13), Alice (aged 10), and Edith (aged 8). To while away the time during the eight-kilometre journey, Dodgson told the girls a story that, not so coincidentally, featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure.....

Alice's second adventure takes her through the looking glass to a place even curiouser than Wonderland. She finds herself caught up in the great looking glass chess game and sets off to become a queen. It isn't as easy as she expects: At every step she is hindered by nonsense characters who crop up and insist on reciting poems.
