Hannah Hickok is struggling. After the death of one of her workers, a woman who had been making life difficult, Hannah finds she is awash in a myriad of feelings she can’t quite put a name to. Things don’t get better when, following a romantic dinner with her boyfriend, Cooper Wyatt, magic and mechanics collide in a multi-vehicle accident that looks to have been caused by a dark shadow. It isn’t long until Poet realizes exactly what that something is... vampires.

She's moving in with her boyfriend Jared Monroe, after all, and into a house that's right across the street so she won't be separated from her best friend. All should be well - and it is - until one of Harper's customers stumbles across a dead body in the cemetery during a tour one night. The woman, a local who worked at the bank, was last seen at a rather infamous party and her movements before and after that are murky. She has ties to a lot of people, and not all of them are upstanding citizens.

For Ivy Morgan, that means deciding on the finishing touches for her basement renovation project and toiling away at her nursery to get flowers and bushes ready for the upcoming planting season. All that changes when a shot rings out and Ivy finds a dead woman in her driveway. The woman was supposed to be there, she was Ivy’s designer, after all. Still, Ivy can’t help but wonder if the designer was the intended target. The timing seems a little too convenient.

That's on top of the fact that Max decides now is the time to make his move.

It seems Phantoms, one of the most popular shows on the Independent Ghost Hunting Network, is interested in doing a location shoot at Ludington Asylum, which just happens to be located on a small island near Whisper Cove. Since childhood, Harper Harlow has been infatuated with the story of a crazy doctor gone rogue and the resulting investigation that found numerous missing patients (but no bodies) at the former institution. Producers want to feature Harper and Zander on their show, and Zander is happy to oblige despite Harper's reticence.

The dog days of summer are here and the heat isn't the only thing oppressing the populace in Whisper Cove. No, it seems that feelings - the big "L" word, to be exact - are weighing heavily on Harper Harlow and Jared Monroe. Both halves of Whisper Cove's favorite couple are both desperate and terrified to say it.

Landon is happy to spend time with Bay, but things shift a bit when a local woman goes missing and Bay becomes obsessed with finding her. When Overlook helper Belinda gets a chance to go to a special conference and learn about opening her own business, Thistle volunteers to watch Belinda's daughter Annie. Thistle was the queen of rotten children so she thinks Annie will be easy. That feeling only lasts until Annie disappears into the frigid woods surrounding Hemlock Cove. Answers are never easy, and when clues start rolling in, Thistle and Aunt Tillie are left to piece together a puzzle that is years in the making and could have dire consequences.

Harper Harlow has ghosts coming out of her ears. Between her regular jobs at Ghost Hunters, Inc. - and the secret her best friend Zander appears to be keeping - she has her hands full. Things only become more complicated when one of Whisper Cove's oldest residents comes knocking on the police department's door. It seems Annette Fleming decided to do some cleaning and while in the attic she found some photographs of a dead body, and she has no idea who the victim is or when she died.

Whisper Cove is stuck in a heat wave, although it's nothing compared to the fire stoking between Harper Harlow and Jared Monroe. They're happy and enjoying themselves...until a face from the past resurfaces. Jason Thurman and Harper had a brief fling in high school, and when he returns to town to open a restaurant he's hoping they can revisit their relationship as adults.

Great-Aunt Tillie is selling wine at the curb of The Overlook - like it's a lemonade stand - and her mother and aunts are about to burn someone at the stake. Unfortunately, it's up to her and cousin Bay to put out the fire. When the two cousins take a stand, they're interrupted by the arrival of an injured and dazed little girl. She won't speak, and she appears to have undergone some sort of trauma.
