The right people, an ancient goddess, and as much magical and good old-fashioned firepower to either lock Heka away for good or end him once and for all. Of course, Heka has a few things up his bony sleeve as well. There are a few benefits to being the old ruler of magic. You can create your own mercenaries to protect you.

Lord Montbarry later dies of bronchitis and upon hearing of this from Henry Westwick, Montbarry's brother, Agnes agrees to meet with Henry at the newly renovated Palace Hotel to investigate the insurance claim that was purchased prior to his death.

Conflict has subsided. Rebuilding is underway. But for those at the heart of the upheaval, moving forward won't be easy. Mistakes must be rectified. Hearts must heal. Limits are tested when unlikely alliances form. Taking the fight to Montica pushes the shaken Kaycians to their breaking points, but even back home, dangers loom.

Further down the road, they encounter Polychrome, who is the daughter of the Rainbow.

Camilla Rivers has left her life and love behind to keep herself safe and save Nick Ludlow from torturous worry. After her life is threatened, they both agree it is safer for her to go stay with her father, though Nick has made it clear that he can’t know her location, and no contact between them would be best until it was safe for her to return. She’s devastated upon arriving at the Towers ranch in Montana. Still healing from a gunshot wound, she has to make it through one day at a time.

Ojo and Unc Nunkie live in the land of Oz in Munchkin Country. Their neighbor, Dr. Pipt, has been devotedly working on the Powder of Life for many years. This magical powder will turn inanimate objects into living things. While demonstrating its power on a stuffed doll made of patchwork, Dr. Pipt accidentally turns his wife and Unc Nunkie to stone. It is up to Ojo to collect the necessary ingredients to destroy the spell and turn them back.

Despite Dorothy's many tales of her adventures in Oz, Aunt Em and Uncle Henry never quite believe her stories. Upon finding out the tornado that destroyed their farmhouse in book 1 (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) is the cause of her Uncle Henry's horrible debt, Dorothy is determined to help her family. She makes plans with Ozma to bring her aunt and uncle to Oz where they may live happily ever after. Just in the nick of time, Shaggy Man falls through the roof of the greenhouse and tries to convince the Gardener to let the pair go, using his powerful Love Magnet. Unable to convince them, the trio is instead banished with Ozma's cousin, Princess Ozga, in tow.

The trail has turned cold, and the Prodigal Suns have to wait for a new sign of Heka to pop up and begin the chase again. When it does, it will lead them on a mission to the other side of the world. A few of Heka's zombie followers have popped up in Turkey and Emily Trigger and the rest of her unit are sent out on the trail. Or so they think.
