Life is changing for Avery Shaw. She's searching for a house with her boyfriend Eliot so they can officially move in together. Avery Shaw is in a funny spot. Her best friend is pregnant, her cousin's girlfriend is up to something, and her boyfriend has serious issues on the brain. Tillie Winchester is annoyed with the world - what else is new, right? - and she's fraying under the pressure. Her nieces believe she's a bad influence on the youngest Winchester generation - especially an acerbic Thistle - and they want her to set a good example. That's not easy when she's fighting with her arch-nemesis and trying to convince Bay, Clove and Thistle they didn't really discover a dead body at the annual tree-lighting ceremony.

Terry Davenport is new to the job as Walkerville's chief of police, but he takes his position seriously - even though very few things of note happen in the small hamlet. Walkerville may be boring, but Terry's personal life is anything but. When termites infest his house, Terry has no choice but to check into a local inn while his home is being tented. He chooses the Winchesters' bed and breakfast, of course, and he's hoping for good food and a modicum of entertainment from the young girls he loves so much.

After a lazy summer, where the only thing to get her blood pumping was resident lothario werewolf Aric Winters, Zoe returns to Covenant College with three new roommates and a few old distractions. But Laura - the roommate who was supposed to be the easiest to get along with - develops a jealous attitude and a secret agenda. Before she even realizes what's happening, Zoe is thrust into another dangerous supernatural situation.

Zoe Lake and Aric Winters thought they were living happily ever after. They were wrong. Five years after surviving Covenant College's final showdown, they find themselves at a crossroads. They're living together. They're happy. There is no future set in stone, though.

Marnie is planning the Winchester family's annual solstice celebration - and it's a lot of work - but the real work comes when niece Bay sees a ghost and Aunt Tillie declares war on her meddlesome great-nieces. Marnie has to find a way to keep the solstice celebration on track - and no one is up to the task of helping. When a local woman goes missing and is later found dead, Avery finds a tangled web of sex, lies, and...well...just overall freaky people to focus on. One man is identified by witnesses, but another may be guilty: the woman's husband.

When Avery's current assignment crosses paths with the story she wants to chase, things come to a head. There's a tangled web of steroids, obnoxious teenagers, and sketchy coaches to unravel. When you compound that with Grandpa and Mario's new business venture - they're running a traveling food truck and taking it to local high schools - Avery's tenuous grasp on reality is starting to fray.

Unfortunately for Avery, when she discovers information that no one else has - and she finds herself on top of the media game - she has to make a decision, and that decision is going to tick off everyone she knows.

Life should be good for Avery Shaw. She's got a hunky new boyfriend in local pawnshop owner (and sometime private detective) Elliot Kane, her cousin Lexie swears she'll be moving out of her house one day "real soon" and her family has been relatively quiet for a whole week. That's practically perfection in Avery's world. Then, what appears to be a random freeway shooting resulting in the death of a young mother, causes upheaval on just about every front.

Avery has spent the last month on her boss' list - you know the one - and she can't figure out a way to get off it. When a missing person's case involving a wealthy mother in the northern suburbs surfaces, Avery figures the best way to get back in his good graces is break the story of the year.
