This classic, early 19th century science fiction masterpiece serves as both a wonderful period presentation of the time as well as a cautionary tale. Called by many a "chilling novel account of a Martian invasion of London in the nineteenth century - a science fiction classic for all time." It was made famous by Orson Welles Mercury Theatre mid 20th Century adaptation that literally had thousands of people running for their lives at the time in the Northeast U.S. H. G.

Der Krieg der Welten (engl. Originaltitel: The War of the Worlds) ist eines der bekanntesten und bedeutendsten Werke von H. G. Wells. Das Buch wurde 1898 veröffentlicht, es folgten mehrere Auflagen. Die deutsche Übersetzung von Gottlieb August Crüwell erschien 1901. Berühmt wurde Krieg der Welten als Hörspiel im Jahr 1938 am Vorabend von Halloween nach einem Drehbuch von Howard Koch ins Amerika der damaligen Zeit versetzt und später in mehreren Verfilmungen (zuerst 1953).

The Time Machine is a science fiction novella by H. G. Wells, published in 1895 and written as a frame narrative. The work is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel by using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposely and selectively forwards or backwards in time. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle.

In the village of Iping, a strange man arrives at a local inn wrapped in bandages. He refuses to leave his room where he is carrying out experiments to make himself invisible. The stranger's success has grave implications for everyone. When he realises that he cannot reverse the experiment, he is gradually driven insane.

In The Invisible Man, an unexpected guest at the Coach and Horses in Iping arouses the local's interest with his short temper and his completely covered face. Griffin is seeking solitude and quiet, but is soon forced from the village and finds temporary shelter in the home of an old university friend, Kemp. In The Time Machine, a Victorian scientist travels into the far future and discovers the descendants of humanity, the Eloi, living in apparent peace. However, after his time machine goes missing, he discovers that humanity has in fact split into two distinct species.

The Victorian era saw orchids become one of the most expensive and collectable plants, and this short story follows orchid collector Wedderburn, who gets more than he bargained for with his latest floral specimen.

Between 1895 and 1898, H. G. Wells wrote five science fiction novels, which have become among the most celebrated examples of the genre. The first of these was The Time Machine, in which Wells explores not only the fascinating subject of time travel but also the potential dangers to human autonomy by the advance of civilization. Well's world-weary Time Traveller, who is the main narrator, is one of his most quirky and appealing characters.

Despite vague warnings from the three infirm custodians who reside in the castle, the narrator ascends to "the Red Room" to begin his night's vigil.
