The pint-sized Helmacrons may have departed Earth, but they haven't finished causing trouble for the Animorphs and Ax. They left behind a damaged ship—containing morph-tracking technology. They're less than an inch tall, and they're pretty upset at Cassie. They believe she stole their ship. Cassie thought it was just a toy and gave it to charity. Now the Helmacrons want it back. So the Animorphs have a new dilemma. Because the Helmacrons have their own secret weapon: They can shrink other beings down to their size. And if they don't get their ship back soon, everyone on the planet is in for a little surprise.

Cassie is on her own. There's no Jake to lead the mission. No Marco to tell stupid jokes. And no Rachel to say "Let's do it!" It's just Cassie. Alone. In Australia. It all began when the latest Animorphs' mission took a bad turn–and Cassie hid in the cargo hold of a jumbo jet. Unfortunately for her, that jet took off, bound for Australia. It seems the Yeerks have figured out one very important fact: Andalites cannot survive without a feeding ground. Visser Three knows the "Andalite bandits" don't feed where he does, so there can only be one other place. Now the Animorphs have to figure out a way to stop a bogus logging operation. Because if Visser Three finds Ax in the woods, nothing will stop him from finding the Animorphs.

What would have happened if the Animorphs had never existed? If Jake and the others had taken the long way home from the mall that night, instead of cutting through the abandoned construction site? If they'd never met Elfangor. Never rescued Ax. Never heard of the Yeerks.... Jake's finally weakened. After one particularly grisly battle, the Drode hits him when he's down and offers the Animorphs' leader an escape from the terrifying pressure.
