Die beiden Unsterblichen Andrej und Abu Dun hat es nach Konstantinopel verschlagen. Dort treibt ein rätselhafter Prophet sein Unwesen, der von seinen Anhängern als der Machdi bezeichnet wird. Es heißt, er könne jeden in seinen Bann ziehen und es sei unmöglich, ihn zu töten. Ist der Unbekannte etwa selbst ein Unsterblicher? In höchster Not bittet Sultan Süleyman Andrej und Abu Dun um Hilfe. Sie sollen den Machdi aufspüren und ihm das Handwerk legen.

Dort werden die Unsterblichen Zeugen eines brutalen Überfalls unheimlicher Kreaturen, angeführt von Odin, dem Rabengott. Thure, der kriegerische Anführer der Nordmänner, bittet Andrej, seinem Volk beizustehen.

Das Rätsel ihrer Herkunft treibt Andrej und Abu Dun in immer neue Abenteuer. Ihre Reise führt sie in ein kleines Dorf, dessen Einwohner zutiefst verängstigt sind. Vor Kurzem haben sich in der Gegend mehrere grauenhafte Morde zugetragen. Gerüchten zufolge soll eine geheimnisvolle Frau dahinterstecken, die in der einsamen Ruine eines Herrenhauses wohnt und von den Menschen in ihrer Umgebung "Die Blutgräfin" genannt wird...
