Initially, the story starts in the fall in Washington, DC, but progresses to a small island off the coast of Maine, a small community in South Carolina, and finally ends up in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania in time for the Christmas holidays. Wealthy reporter Simon Wilde is a former US Navy SEAL who uses his position to cover his covert action for a secret world enforcement agency.

Capri McAllister took her law degree and career into her hands and carved out a business as a lobbyist in the rough, competitive concrete jungle of Washington, DC's Capitol Hill often cutthroat society. She is young, not yet 30, but she is made of stern stuff. She loves her multicultural family fiercely, but she would not crumble under someone's attempt to intimidate her into dropping certain clients even if it means disgracing her family's good name. 

When the tall, tan, tantalizing Texan strode into her brother’s business office with his bodyguards like he owned the joint, Kelley Baylor didn’t know him from a can of paint.
