Rain Christiansen isn't sure he'll ever fully understand the supernatural. But he's finally finding his groove as a reluctant medium and cold-case detective. That's not to say everything is going smoothly—there's a wedding in the works, after all. At least work is keeping Rain and the PTU plenty busy. The latest case involves Hannah Caldwell, a silent ghost who can't—or won't—speak. She still manages to request that they find her dear friend, Cherry Parker, so that she can say goodbye. Piece of cake. But when it comes to ghosts, nothing is ever quite what it seems.

Every year on the day of the Ghost Festival, creatures from the underworld roam city streets freely when the gate of hell is opened. The owner of the House of Life set out a lavish banquet to entertain and appease these hungry ghosts. This year, however, foul creatures led by a long-dead Manchurian nobleman came down from the Devil's Peak on horseback and stormed the banquet hall. They harassed the guests and wrecked havoc to the festivity, demanding the House of Life to hand over something it has been safe-keeping for centuries.

In 1934, the body of a beautiful but poor young woman was found alongside a riverbank near The Depot. Beaten to a pulp, only recognizable by a tattoo on her ankle, and yet, days after the discovery, the story all but disappears. Eighty years later, locals claim The Depot is haunted.
