Andie Gladman is your typical kid—she lives in a small town, doesn't have many friends and quietly puts up with taunts from the school bully, Myrtle Klinghoffer. Two swindlers pose as tailors and offer to supply an emperor with beautiful clothes that are woven from fabric so fine, you can only see it if you're smart enough. The emperor hires them to create a magnificent new garment for him so they set about working... but the swindlers don't plan to make anything at all.

Like everyone else in the kingdom, two clever swindlers understand the emperor's passion for new clothes. Claiming to be the creators of the richest and most beautiful cloth in the world, they cleverly announce that the magical garments they are weaving for the emperor are invisible to anyone lacking intelligence. Who will have the courage to speak the truth?
