La cena è organizzata dal buffonesco ma inquietante presidente di una bizzarra e improbabile Società Gastronomica. Il genere è fra il noir e l'horror ma con venature psicologiche di qualità. Ci sono anche dei tratti di ingenuità, del resto ricordiamo che è stato scritto da Pessoa a soli 16 anni. "Il più precoce cibo letterario della mia infanzia furono i tanti romanzi del mistero e delle più spaventose avventure" ha scritto Fernando Pessoa, grande appassionato di gialli, lettore e anche traduttore di Edgar Allan Poe. Il suo nome completo era Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa.
