The character of Professor Challenger was introduced in this book. The novel also describes a war between indigenous people and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures.

This novel takes listeners along on a journey with Edward Malone, an intrepid reporter who wants to take on a daring assignment. He is sent on an expedition after hearing a story from Professor Challenger, a paleontologist who claims to have found a hidden world with living dinosaurs in the jungles of South America.

Il mondo perduto (The Lost World), fu scritto nel 1912, ed è una delle opere più note del filone avventuroso del mondo perduto che si sviluppò a cavallo tra il XIX e il XX secolo. In particolare influenzò tutte le opere che in seguito parlarono di dinosauri, a partire da King Kong e a finire con Jurassic Park. In questo romanzo viene introdotto un personaggio, il professor Challenger, che, come dice il none, è quasi all’opposto di Holmes, istintivo quanto quest’ultimo è riflessivo.

Der Flug der Ultimo-1 wird durch ein Geisterschiff gestoppt, das seit zweieinhalb Jahrzehnten als verschollen galt.
