A visit to the local village fete for a spot of fun and relaxation turns into a nightmare for Agatha Raisin when she discovers the body of the local landowner in the woods - with an arrow in his chest and his trousers round his ankles. At first her old adversary, Detective Chief Inspector Wilkes, declares the death a tragic accident, believing the victim has been hit by a stray arrow from an archery demonstration. Agatha is convinced the man was murdered and is shocked when Wilkes eventually agrees...particularly as he considers her to be his prime suspect!

High-flying public relations supremo Agatha Raisin has decided to take early retirement. She's off to make a new life in a picture-perfect Cotswold village. To make friends, she enters the local quiche-making competition - and to make quite sure of first prize she secretly pays a visit to a London deli. Alas, the competition judge succumbs after tasting her perfect quiche, and Agatha is revealed as a cheat and potential poisoner. Definitely not the best start. So Agatha must turn amateur sleuth - she's absolutely got to track down the real killer!

Si dice che i primi mesi di matrimonio siano i più difficili… e James e Agatha lo possono confermare. Invece di godersi la felicità coniugale, i neosposi vivono in cottage separati e si lanciano accuse reciproche di infedeltà. Quando poi, dopo una lite particolarmente violenta nel locale pub, James scompare, tutti sospettano che Agatha si sia sbarazzata di lui. E a ciò si aggiunge il fatto che Melissa, la presunta amante di James, viene ritrovata morta di lì a poco.

A cinquant’anni, Agatha Raisin ha deciso di cambiare vita: chiude la sua società londinese di PR e si trasferisce nei pittoreschi Cotswolds, nel cuore dell’Inghilterra. Tuttavia, se a Londra non si era accorta di non avere amici, giunta nel villaggio di Carsely la solitudine le sembra intollerabile. Così decide non soltanto di farsi conoscere, ma di diventare anche popolare. Come? Per esempio partecipando a una gara culinaria. E se non si è capaci di cucinare? Basta un rapido viaggio a Londra per procurarsi un’ottima quiche. E se poi il giudice della gara muore mangiando la quiche?

Dopo il fallito matrimonio con James, Agatha non sa più che fare. E, come spesso accade, sceglie di fare la cosa più sbagliata in assoluto. Segue James a Cipro, dove lui è andato per cercare di riprendersi dallo smacco, e conosce un piccolo gruppo di turisti inglesi, del genere che ha “adottato tutti i modi peggiori dell’aristocrazia, e nessuno di quelli migliori” e che tuttavia pare aver stretto amicizia con altri tre turisti, che sono il loro esatto opposto.

L’agenzia investigativa ha poco da investigare e Agatha Raisin si annoia. È quindi con fin troppo entusiasmo che accetta l’invito di James Lacey, il mai dimenticato ex marito, a trascorrere una vacanza in una destinazione a sorpresa. Peccato che, ad attenderla, non ci sia un romantico hotel affacciato sul Mediterraneo, ma lo squallido e decrepito Hotel Palace di Snoth-On-Sea, nel Sussex, in cui James ha trascorso le estati della sua infanzia.

Agatha Raisin säger upp sig från sin PR-firma i London, säljer sin lägenhet och bestämmer sig för att prova på livet som småstadsbo i den lilla byn Carsely, beläget i pittoreska Cotswold Hills. Men livet som förtidspensionerad blir inte riktigt som hon tänkt sig. Hon är van vid ett högt tempo och att få som hon vill, och för att inte dö av uttråkning bestämmer hon sig för att delta i en lokal baktävling.

Allora il produttore dello spettacolo assume Agatha per indagare… nel pericolosissimo, infido mondo del teatro amatoriale.

Questa è la storia di come Agatha Raisin, figlia dei bassifondi di Birmingham, sia arrivata a dirigere una prestigiosa agenzia londinese di pubbliche relazioni. Non aspettatevi una favola, però, dato che in questa storia c’è tutta la determinazione e la rabbia di una giovane donna in fuga da una complicata situazione familiare, sposatasi solo per scoprire che il marito era un ubriacone, e che ha dovuto lavorare sodo per sbarcare il lunario.

Stille Nacht, tödliche Nacht. Agatha Raisin hat mit Weihnachten zwar nicht viel am Hut, aber ihr kleines Dorf Carsely war schon immer stolz auf seine Festtagstraditionen. Dieses Jahr jedoch hat John Sunday, ein Beamter der Sicherheitsbehörde, gerade die besinnlichen Tage als Zeitpunkt gewählt, um gegen das vorzugehen, was er als grobe Fahrlässigkeit ansieht: so ziemlich alles. Selbst der Weihnachtsbaum entpuppt sich als Sicherheitsrisiko. Doch damit ist Sunday eindeutig zu weit gegangen. Kein Wunder, dass er bald tot im Vorgarten des Pfarrhauses gefunden wird.

Lord Bellington è morto, però ben pochi, a Carsely, se ne dispiacciono. Aveva infatti deciso di rivestire con una colata di cemento un'area che i pensionati dei Cotswolds usavano come orto e la cosa aveva suscitato più di un malumore. Pare inoltre che Damian, suo figlio ed erede, non abbia il minimo interesse nel portare a compimento i piani di sviluppo del padre. Ma la polizia è interessata a lui, perché – a quanto sembra – Lord Bellington non è morto di morte naturale e bisogna trovare l'assassino.

Après un séjour de six mois à Londres, Agatha retrouve enfin ses chères Cotswolds - et le non moins cher James Lacey. Même si le retour au bercail de son entreprenante voisine ne donne pas l'impression d'enthousiasmer particulièrement le célibataire le plus convoité de Carsely. Heureusement, Agatha est très vite happée par son sport favori : la résolution d'affaires criminelles. Comme le meurtre d'une certaine Jessica, qui militait pour le droit de passage de son club de randonneurs dans les propriétés privées des environs.

De retour dans les Cotswolds après de longues vacances, Agatha Raisin découvre que son voisin James Lacey, objet de tous ses fantasmes, est tombé sous le charme d'une nouvelle venue au village. Aussi élégante qu'amusante, Mary Fortune est une jardinière hors pair, et la journée portes ouvertes des jardins de Carsely s'annonce déjà comme son triomphe. Mais une Agatha Raisin ne s'incline pas avant d'avoir combattu (quitte à se livrer à l'une de ces petites supercheries peu reluisantes dont elle a le secret) !

L'arrivo a Carsely della psicologa Jill Davent non ha di certo suscitato l'entusiasmo di Agatha Raisin. Non solo la donna si è messa a gironzolare attorno a James, il suo ex marito, ma le ha pure fatto capire di essere a conoscenza di certi dettagli poco lusinghieri sul suo passato e non si è trattenuta dal parlarne in giro. Inoltre, tra i suoi pazienti c'è Gwen Simple, che Agatha sospetta fortemente di essere stata complice in un omicidio.

Das hat ungeahnte Folgen, als auf dem nahe gelegenen Landgut tatsächlich ein Mord geschieht und Agatha unter Tatverdacht gerät.

Keine Hochzeit, aber ein Todesfall! Agathas Ex-Mann James Lacey ist mit einer schönen jungen Frau verlobt - und Agatha wird sogar zur Hochzeit eingeladen. So eine Misere! Aber schlimmer geht es bekanntlich immer, und am Tag der Hochzeit kommt es zur Katastrophe: Die Braut wird tot aufgefunden. Plötzlich ist die taffe Detektivin als eifersüchtige Ex die Hauptverdächtige. Und das ist noch nicht das Ende der Fahnenstange, denn die untröstliche Brautmutter bittet Agatha, den Mord an ihrer Tochter aufzuklären.

Agatha è sconvolta quando scopre che James si è fidanzato e sta per sposare Felicity Bross-Tilkington, indiscutibilmente bella e giovane. Per mettere migliaia di chilometri tra sé e l'ex marito, decide di recarsi in vacanza sul Mar Nero. Qui, per puro caso, incrocia due volte i promessi sposi, guadagnandosi l'accusa di stalking. Ecco perché, quando il giorno delle nozze Felicity viene assassinata in camera sua prima di recarsi in chiesa, Agatha finisce nell'elenco dei sospetti.

Frühling in den Cotswolds. Agatha Raisin langweilt sich fürchterlich, zu lange liegt ihr letzter Fall zurück. Nur ein Streit im Nachbardorf sorgt für etwas Abwechslung: Ein Mineralwasserhersteller will sich für viel Geld aus der örtlichen Trinkwasserquelle bedienen, was die Dörfler bis hinauf zum Gemeinderat spaltet. Als der Vorsitzende des Rats ermordet in der Quelle treibt, sieht Agatha das Ende ihrer kriminalistischen Durststrecke gekommen. Mit Inbrunst stürzt sie sich in die Ermittlungen - und muss rasch erkennen: Dieser Mörder ist mit allen Wassern gewaschen.

In den Cotswolds gilt Mr. John als genialer Friseur, weshalb die Frauen bei ihm Schlange stehen. So auch Agatha Raisin. Denn der Selbstversuch, ihre (wenigen!) grauen Haare zu färben, ging gründlich schief. Gut, dass Mr John noch einen freien Termin hat. Und wie es scheint, findet der charmante Friseur nicht nur Agathas Haare reizvoll, sondern auch ihr Herz. Doch als Mr. John vergiftet wird, endet ihre gemeinsame Zukunft, bevor sie überhaupt beginnen konnte. Ist der Täter eine Kundin des Friseurs? Der Verdacht liegt nah, meint Agatha und geht dem haarsträubenden Fall auf den Grund.

Agatha Raisins letzter Fall hat Spuren hinterlassen: Dank einer arglistigen Friseurin sind ihr die Haare ausgefallen, und zwar büschelweise. Ausgeschlossen, dass James Lacey sie so sehen darf! Also flüchtet Agatha in das Küstenstädtchen Wyckhadden, wo sie bleiben will, bis ihre Haarpracht wiederhergestellt ist. Um das Ganze zu beschleunigen, kauft sie bei der örtlichen Kräuterhexe eine Haartinktur. Und tatsächlich: Kaum wendet Agatha das Mittel an, sprießen ihre Haare wie von Zauberhand.
