The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Gregor's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka himself never gave an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become.

Gregor Samsa, el protagonista, se despierta una mañana sintiendo extraños dolores. Asustado, se percata de que sus miembros no le responden, y además nota que su cuerpo pesa en exceso. Gregor vive con sus padres y hermana, y piensa en ellos y en su trabajo, cuando aquella mañana descubre que ha dejado de ser humano para convertirse en un bicho.

Gregorio tenía un buen trabajo, era viajante y llevaba adelante a toda su familia. Una mañana Gregorio amanece con cuerpo de insecto, a consecuencia de esto se queda en su cuarto por miedo a que le vean sus familiares; estos le llamaban desesperadamente para que fuera a trabajar. Gregorio intenta ponerse en pie y acomodarse a su nuevo cuerpo, que todavía no domina.

Un hombre despierta y se encuentra convertido en un enorme insecto. Un faquir, dedicado al ayuno, lo hace por tanto tiempo que se olvidan de el. Este es el tipo de historia de pesadilla que caracteriza al gran autor checo.

Gregor Samsa, a mobile sales rep, gets up one morning to end up changed into a monster bug. Battling with his new structure, he attempts to adjust to his condition while wrestling with the deficiency of his work and the rising estrangement from his loved ones. At first, his family is appalled however keeps on accommodating him out of obligation. Over the long run, notwithstanding, their consideration transforms into hatred as Gregor turns into a weight. His sister, who once showed empathy, ultimately joins the others in wanting for his demise. Gregor's disengagement develops, and he surrenders...
