No wonder Elias Canetti described it as "one of the few great and perfect works of the poetic imagination written". The Metamorphosis remains one of the best works of fiction in history. It is the story of a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, who wakes up to find himself being transformed to an insect-like creature. Gregorio intenta ponerse en pie y acomodarse a su nuevo cuerpo, que todavía no domina.

Un hombre despierta y se encuentra convertido en un enorme insecto. Un faquir, dedicado al ayuno, lo hace por tanto tiempo que se olvidan de el. Este es el tipo de historia de pesadilla que caracteriza al gran autor checo.
