When the renowned entrepreneur and inventor Alfred Nobel died, his last will contained the establishment of a foundation for the betterment of science and peace. However, the testament disappears and Sherlock Holmes is called to Stockholm.

. A few days before Christmas Inspector Lestrade is asking Holmes for assistance in a strange murder case. The extremely challenging and downright dangerous investigation leads them to a Catholic abbey in Middlesex, where evil strikes terror into people's hearts.

On Easter Sunday of 1919, Lady Lillian Assherton attempted to take her own life, a second time. Her first attempt was in the fall of 1917 when Her Ladyship, recently widowed, received news that both of her sons, officers in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, died at Passchendaele.
