"The Adventure of the Speckled Band" is one of the 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by Scottish author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is the eighth of the 12 stories collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It is one of four Sherlock Holmes stories that can be classified as a locked room mystery. The story was first published in Strand Magazine in February 1892, with illustrations by Sidney Paget.

It is summer of 1885. The Strauss brothers are staying in London as part of a concert tour. The planned performance in one of the largest concert halls in the Empire is at jeopardy, when a crime occurs involving Johann's violin. His desperate brother Eduard reaches out to Sherlock Holmes for help.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are assigned to investigate a strange poisoning, and although the relation between the victim, the crime and the motive offer some mystery and surprises, they are able to step by step close in on to solving the case. But then, Holmes' life gets into danger.

A seriously ill man, who is firmly convinced that he has been cursed by three witches, asks Sherlock Holmes to investigate. Convinced that their client must have an explainable cause for his illness Holmes and Watson are traveling to Eastbourne to get to the bottom of this, before their client departs from life.

An unusual sequence of events in "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" leads the legendary Sherlock Holmes to locate the precious jewel owned by the Countess of Morcar. The story is read by a true master, Edward Hardwicke, a talented actor who plays Sherlock Holmes's associate, Dr. Watson, in the popular PBS series Mystery!

Helen Stoner worries her stepfather may be trying to kill her after he contrives to move her to the bedroom where her sister had died two years earlier, shortly before her wedding. Stoner is herself now engaged, and Holmes learns that her stepfather's annuity (from the estate of his wife — Stoner's mother) would be greatly reduced if either sister married. During a late-night investigation of the bedroom, Holmes and Watson discover a dummy bell-pull near a ventilator. As they lie in wait a whistle sounds, then a snake appears through the ventilator.

In "The Final Problem", perhaps the greatest of the short stories of Sherlock Holmes, the English detective encounters his most formidable rival, Professor Moriarty. 'The Napoleon of Crime' is how Holmes describes his adversary to his faithful companion, Dr Watson, as they move to the ultimate confrontation at the Reichenbach Falls.

The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was a radio show which aired in the USA from 1939-1950, most famously starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. Episodes from 1939 through 1943 were written or adapted by Edith Meiser from the books of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. From 1943 onward, most shows were written or adapted by the team of Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher or Green and Leslie Charteris who replaced Meiser who left the show over her disagreements with a sponsor over the amount of violence in the program. "The Adventure of the Abbey Grange", one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of 13 stories in the cycle collected as The Return of Sherlock Holmes. Inspector Lestrade asks Sherlock Holmes for help when the Chinese owner of an opium cave is murdered in London. Holmes, however, is not in full possession of his detecting skills, and Dr. Watson has to take over at first. At the scene he finds a big mystery.
