The Shepherd Who Stays

Jn. 10:11-18

◊ He stays to sacrifice—Jesus’ commitment is total

◦ because he is “good”—faithful character is essential (v. 11)

◦ because we “belong” to him—bonded relationship is

paramount (v. 12a, 13-15)

◦ because “attacks” and “scattering” kill—holy community

must be protected (v. 12b)

Do we stay sacrificially committed to the faith community?

◊ He stays to multiply---God’s Kingdom expanded (v. 16)

Do we stay excitedly committed to Kingdom expansion?

◊ He stays to fulfill—Jesus’ mission is accomplished

◦ because of his relationship with the Father—loving God is

the greatest motive (v. 17a)

◦ because he “can take…up” his life—the resurrection is

the greatest victory (v. 17b-18a)

◦ because he treasures the Father’s will—God’s will is the

greatest goal (v. 18b)

Do we stay lovingly committed to God’s will?

  • Following the Spirit's Detours and Directions (Acts 16:6-12)
    Aug 5 2025

    Sermon Outline

    Following the Spirit’s

    Detours and Directions

    Acts 16:6-12

    The Spirit’s Detours—“…had prevented them…”

    ▪ detoured from traveling due east into Asia (v. 6)

    ▪ deciding to travel north toward Bithynia (v. 7a)

    ▪ detoured from traveling into Bithynia (v. 7b)

    ▪ deciding to travel west into Mysia, then to Troas (v. 8)

We can be assured that when the Spirit detours our

previous decisions and plans, He will give us discernment

    and patience to follow obediently.

    The Spirit’s Directions—“pleading with them”

    ▪ a dream directing them northwest into Macedonia (vv. 9-10)

    ▪ deciding to travel northwest to Salmothrace and Neapolis (v.11),

    then Philippi (v. 12)

We can be assured that when the Spirit

gives us detours, He will later give us

    directions and destinations.
