About this listen

Welcome, fellow traveler. If you’ve gotten this far, you are, indeed, a traveler about to start the new leg of a journey in your life. You’re at a crossroads, a decision to be made. Red pill or blue pill. Which direction are you taking? Alas, you may not know, and that’s ok. Conversely, you may know and may be uncertain of the perils of the road ahead. Some have always known the path, but something, or someone, has never failed to get in their way. Whatever the case, I would like you to take this as an invitation. An invitation to take up the journey you see before you not just for yourself, but for the good of those around you.

If you’re anything like me, you may have been inspired by stories of heroes and their great accomplishments. Their heroic deeds, protecting the innocent, defeating evil, preventing calamity, saving the day. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left a movie theater after viewing a film, inspired to live a better life. These movies tend to make us want to be better by creating the fantasy of the incredible. This isn’t limited to movies, either, but also tv shows, books, comics, manga, anime, etc. The influences are all around us.

The paths that heroes in these mediums take often follow a shared framework. One in which the hero lives in a world where they may feel unfulfilled, events transpire that send them on a path of self-discovery, through a rite of passage, or growth, and they return home, changed, to share their gift with others. This is known as the hero’s journey, and using this framework can be used as a tool towards navigating our lives with a sense of purpose; seeking empowerment, higher self-esteem, self-efficacy, and re-discovering strengths and resources we forgot we had.
