The iPhone Fold is expected to feature a unique "passport" form factor, distinguishing it from many current foldable devices. When folded, the device is remarkably compact, with a height of approximately 120.5 mm and a width of 83 mm. This small footprint allows for comfortable one-handed use.

In terms of thickness, the device is incredibly sleek, measuring only 4.48 mm when unfolded. When closed, it reaches a thickness of 9.6 mm, which is very similar to the profile of an iPhone 17 Pro. The construction is designed to be buttonless and streamlined, likely omitting a physical SIM slot in favor of eSIM technology.

Display Technology

The device features two distinct screens:

• External Display: A 5.5-inch screen that offers a more traditional, wider aspect ratio compared to the long, narrow screens found on other foldables.

• Internal Display: A 7.8-inch folding screen that, when opened, resembles an iPad Mini with significantly thinner bezels.

Apple is expected to utilize Samsung’s new OLED technology, which reportedly eliminates the visible crease or "groove" in the middle of the display, a common issue in earlier foldable generations.

Hardware and Performance

The iPhone Fold will be a flagship powerhouse, likely powered by the Apple A20 or A20 Pro chip. There is speculation that these processors could be manufactured using a cutting-edge 2nm process. Other key internal specifications include:

• Memory: 12 GB of RAM in all versions.

• Storage: Options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB.

• Battery: A total capacity of approximately 5500 mAh, likely split into multiple modules across both halves of the device to maintain its slim profile.

• Charging: Support for MagSafe is expected.

Camera System

The device will feature a dual-camera array on the rear, consisting of a 48 MP main sensor and a 48 MP telephoto lens. Notably, the lenses are arranged vertically, similar to the design seen in the iPhone 17 Slim/Air models, rather than horizontally. For selfies and video calls, the device is equipped with an 18 MP front camera supporting Center Stage.

Software and User Experience

To optimize the large internal display, Apple is expected to use a modified version of iPadOS as the base for the iPhone Fold’s software. This allows for better scaling of apps and a user interface that more closely mimics the iPad experience when the device is unfolded. The external screen will likely feature a slightly modified layout, such as one fewer row of icons compared to standard 6.1-inch iPhones.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone Fold is projected to debut in September 2026. It will be positioned as an ultra-premium product with a high price tag. Estimates suggest a starting price of over $2,000 in the United States, potentially reaching €2,500 in Europe.
