Unexpected Yowie Encounter in the Border RangesClose Encounter During Field Studies

An unexpected close quarter Yowie sighting occurred during operational field studies in the mountains of the Border Ranges, New South Wales. A Paleo Anthropologist, holding degrees in both Science and Archaeology, encountered a creature whose presence defied scientific understanding.

    Scientific Puzzles and Historical Timeline

The Academic stated, “Scientifically, it shouldn’t be here. According to all the agreed theories, even if it was here, it should have been 200,000 to 300,000 years ago – not in 2017.” The creature was thought to be extinct for thousands of years, yet stood beside the researcher in recent times.

    Pursuit of Understanding

Disturbed by the experience, the Academic went on to earn a further degree in Paleo Archaeology, specialising in the study of Hominins, Hominids, and Evolution, aiming to better understand what was witnessed.

    Instinct Over Documentation

Although equipped with two cameras and a mobile phone in his backpack, the Academic admitted that documenting the encounter was the last thing on his mind. In that moment, the instinct for self-preservation overpowered any academic reasoning.

Yowie Encounters in Queensland: Aboriginal PerspectivesLocations

The experiences described took place in Mingela, situated between Townsville and Charters Towers, and on Palm Island, located to the northeast of Townsville in Queensland.

    Descriptions of the Creatures

Accounts recall interactions with both the larger Yowie and smaller, hairy men. These smaller figures are characterized by a mischievous nature, as described by one witness. Some Aboriginal accounts have also referred to them as evil.

    Aboriginal Terminology

On Palm Island, the native name for the Yowie is ‘Joongabina’.

Another interesting report from an Aboriginal perspective.

Collecting Yowie Memories: Cecil Thomson of StanthorpeIntroduction

This document highlights the collective memories of Yowie sightings shared by Cecil, an elderly gentleman who lived in Stanthorpe, Queensland during the 1930s.

    Preserving Oral Histories

Cecil’s interview is the second feature in a series focused on recollections from older generations regarding Yowie encounters. The first interview was with Clyde Sheperdson from Nanango, whose story is available on both the Podcast and Youtube channel.

    Significance of Old Yowie Reports

While some enthusiasts prefer recent reports, firsthand accounts from earlier decades are rare and highly valued among dedicated Yowie researchers. These older stories, directly from individuals who experienced them, are considered treasures in the community.

    Legacy

Since the time of the interview, both Clyde and Cecil have passed away. However, Cecil’s memories of the Yowie endure through these recordings, ensuring that his experiences remain accessible for future listeners.
