  • From Paper-Mache to Reality: Finding Christ w/ Willie Wise
    Mar 13 2026

In this episode of Words of This Life, Pablo and Ayo are joined by former ABA champion and NBA player Willie Wise for a rich conversation about life, faith, and what truly gives meaning to human life.

Willie shares about growing up in San Francisco as one of ten children, living “from meal to meal,” and how basketball became the path that eventually led him to Drake University and the 1969 Final Four. From there, he went on to play professionally in the ABA and NBA, facing legendary players and experiencing the highest levels of the game.

Along the way, Willie also shares his experiences growing up during a time when racism and cultural tensions were very present in the United States. He speaks honestly about the atmosphere of the 50s and 60s, the challenges many faced, and how he has continued to view these issues even today.

One of the central lines from this episode captures the heart of his testimony: “Reality is Jesus Christ. Everything else is papier-mâché.” Willie explains how so many things people pursue can seem solid, but in the end only Christ remains as the true reality that gives life meaning.

This episode is also our first remote split-screen recording, and we’re thankful to share Willie’s story with you.

In this talk, Dr. Diller unpacks the three parts of man, what it means to live by an inward sense, and how the grace of God trains us in real, daily experience.

  • Body, Soul, and Spirit: Dr. Alex on Mental Health in Christianity
    Feb 13 2026

In this episode of Words of This Life, hosts Pablo Valenzuela and Ayo Odole sit down with Dr. Alex, a licensed psychologist and board certified pediatric neuropsychologist, for an honest conversation on mental health in light of the Scriptures.

Dr. Alex shares his own testimony of being rescued by the Lord from depression, and he opens up how the Bible tenderly addresses the whole person: body, soul, and spirit (1 Thess. 5:23). Together we unpack the Lord as the “Shepherd and Overseer of our souls” (1 Pet. 2:25), a High Priest who is “touched with the feeling of our weaknesses” (Heb. 4:15), and God’s cherishing care for Elijah in his darkest moment (1 Kings 19).

Join us to talk through stigma, “thinking errors” that shape anxiety and depression, the role of trauma, and practical ways to foster an atmosphere where people can open up and receive real care, without fear or judgment.

Inspired by Acts 5:20, Words of This Life features real testimonies from real believers, showing that Christ is alive, active, and speaking today.
