About this listen

Good morning. Wisconsin. I'm Aaron Jolly. Folks, step outside right now and you'll feel something unusual. Mid-40s already. But here's the thing. That's just the warm-up act. A dry cold front is sliding through today. And ahead of it? Compressional heating is about to send temperatures absolutely soaring. We're talking mid to upper 60s across the southeast — 15 to 20 degrees above normal for early March. Milwaukee and Madison could tie or break records today, flirting with 68 degrees. That's the kind of warmth that makes you forget winter exists. Green Bay and Appleton hit 64. Even Wausau climbs to 59. Enjoy it while you can. Tonight, that front clears out and temperatures crash back to reality — upper 30s to low 40s statewide. Here's where things get interesting. Tuesday starts quiet, but by evening, a strong low pressure system tracks toward southern Lake Michigan. Rain arrives Tuesday night, heavy at times across the southeast — a quarter to half inch possible. Some embedded thunderstorms mixed in too. Wednesday morning? That's when it gets messy. Temperatures drop and that rain transitions to a wintry mix, then snow. Northern areas could see 2 inches or more. If you're commuting Wednesday morning, especially north of I-94, give yourself extra time. Thursday brings a brief break before another clipper arrives Thursday night with rain and possible snow. Then the weekend hits with another potentially significant system Saturday night into Sunday. Snow accumulations looking plausible. Spring equinox is just 11 days away, but winter's clearly not done with us yet. For that temperature crash tonight. See you this afternoon.
