In this episode we celebrate the women in our lives as we flip the script on the podcast to ask 'Who's Your Mummy...Really?' as Joe gives us his mother figures (or mum-bers) - We chat about Joe's mums involvement in a Dysgu Cymraeg doping scandal, her love of knitting baby booties, and her inexplicable addiction to Big Fish flash games in the late 00s. If you don't listen to this episode you're part of the problem.

    Mar 2 2026

Have you ever asked your dad what his favourite aspect of fatherhood is LIVE on a podcast? In a Who's Your Daddy...Really? first, we hear from a dad LIVE ON POD as May phones in to quiz Martin on his favourite aspects of fatherhood!

In the episode we also discuss May's dad hobbies, from her dad's stellar squash career, including a stint as Cornish number one, his time living in his childhood bedroom, along with his hatred for iCarly.

We also chat about Joe's dad wandering off to do DIY during a visit home, whether a baby can learn gymnastics, and the key ways to spot when something is written by AI.

In another first, we feature our first AD READ** for one of May's dad's favourite products, "Uncle Franks" - available at all good retailers.

ABOUT OUR GUEST: May Thompson is a Cornish stand-up (Machynlleth Comedy Festival) and comedy writer (BBC Radio Wales), she was a finalist in the 'Cornish Comedian of the Year' and co-hosts the Justin Timberthon podcast, which explores everything in Justin Timberlake's oeuvre. • 16. 'Prime Having-a-Stepdad Years' - The Dad Who Dulled Her Sparkle (ft. May Thompson)
    Feb 23 2026

What is the ideal age for your parents to get divorced?

We break new ground in this episode as we welcome May Thompson back to discuss the father figures of the first divorced dad on pod: Martin Thompson - sociology teacher and dad-of-the-sea. We explore Martin's influence on May's life and personality, from igniting her interest in comedy to leading her to become a quieter queer person who doesn't wear badges.

We also discuss the ins and outs of Martin's latest hobby: scuba diving. Dissecting the dangerous misrepresentation of snorkels in cartoons and asking: what is at the bottom of the sea? If you found Atlantis there, would you come back to dry land or stay down there with your new mermaid wife? Joe breaks into a Morrissey impression as we reflect on a now-defunct (or should I say, de-FUNKED) comedy night that was invaded by a fourteen-piece jazz-funk band fundraising for a yoga charity. Finally, May tells us about the time she touched her dad on 9/11, the time they bonded while watching the Women's Euros Final on her phone in a church, plus she tells us what she really thinks of Andy Parsons.

  • 15. 'You Can Train an Ape to Tuck a Baby into Bed' - The Dad Who Still Rents DVDs Off Netflix (ft. May Thompson)
    Feb 16 2026

If you got given a baby like in the Truman Show, would you do anything interesting with it?

In this Episode we uncover May Thompson's father figures to understand what makes her dad, a man who is 'only just getting into reading', really tick. We also talk about a monkey who escaped from the zoo and became just another visitor, discuss (in great detail) whether a town of trained apes could raise a baby, and Max accidentally takes an important phone call live on-pod!

    Feb 9 2026

    Did somebody say musical episode?

This week we take a look back at our dads' favourite tunes from meeting a woman with tiny hands at Tame Impala to a dad who loves a bit of the Bube'.

We also discuss Blur vs Oasis, Joe's dad's love of the Coldplay monkey video, plus a mum moment meeting one of the stars of Time Team at a folk open mic somewhere in the heart of Somerset.

We also sing a lot throughout the episode, so do enjoy that x

  • 13. 'Heirs To The Jelly Throne' - Friends in a Dad's World
    Feb 2 2026

    What are friends to dads?

A scientist once said that "men over 50 only have like, 2 friends." In this episode, we find out whether or not this is true, by examining our dads' various friendships throughout the years. From Alvin's reluctant palling around with a shirtless sofa salesman and a swimming instructor who spear-tackled an old woman, to Kev's glory days with the 'king of the plumbers' and a man who used to wear a McDonald's uniform to play golf. We also look at tales from the current friend rosters of our dads - Alvin attending a gay wedding and exchanging memes with a naughty vicar, Kev getting free tickets to watch the Newport-Gwent Dragons in the royal box (which is more of a hut, really). Finally, we explore the concept of having friends as a dad - do all dads meet their friends through their wives' friends? Do you have much of a choice who you're friends with as a parent? Will we still have as many friends when we're dads? Also, Joe gets on a roll at one point with a couple of "jokes."

  • 12. 'Don’t Do Anything Around Teenage Boys' - The Ballad of Shooty Poo Shoes (New Year's Dad-Update)
    Jan 26 2026

Do you think it's cuck-y to tap off the bus?

In this episode Max & Joe give the latest dad updates on their Christmas and New Years’ - from an overly informative lecture from Alvin on how to tap on and tap off the train (which leads to a lively debate on public transport etiquette) and Kev’s avoiding of Joe's meltdown while cooking the family Christmas Dinner. We also chat about the story of a dad who gifted his son a box of balls, why parents take forever to take a photo, and finally Joe recounts the story of his New Year’s Eve ordeal of showing up to previous guest dad John Hampshire’s house with a poopy shoe.

  • 11. 'Chris Barnes is an Adult' - The Dad with Five Shotguns in his Shed
    Jan 19 2026

Have you ever tried to sleep angry?

In this episode we ask Austin Hampshire what his dad gets up to in his free time, which involves a significant number of live firearms. Austin tells us about his dad’s love of cycling, shooting and VR gaming. We talk M.A.M.I.Ls, why dads always have all the gear and no idea, and recount Austin’s days as a child shooting protégé; complete with his own little tweedy outfit.

We also rant about the insanity of organised running events that ruin the city, the impossibility of finding a decent parking space in Swansea city centre, and discuss whether Joe really did run over a pigeon in his car live on a call with Max.

Finally we hear some great dad-vice on how to beat insomnia!
