We all have an idea of who our partner should be when we get married. There's nothing wrong with that.
The problem arises when we have that expectation unbeknownst to our partner. Living up to an expectation that we don't even know exists is very difficult and can lead to resentment and misunderstanding.
Conversations about our ideas of what and who a husband or a wife is and should be are important to have before you say I do and to continue to have throughout your marriage.
