Wangari Muta Maathai fundó el Movimiento Cinturón Verde, con el cual logró recuperar la vida vegetal en Kenia, a la vez que promovió la implicación de la población femenina local empoderándola y otorgándole un papel fundamental en el desarrollo del país.
Cristal Martínez fue la coordinadora de los proyectos de voluntariado ambiental, Planeta Viu, en Nueva Acrópolis Barcelona, durante los años 2006 al 2018
