  • WRERU Conversations: Mualla Selçuk and Julian Stern
    Feb 25 2024

This is the first of a series of conversations between WRERU members. Today, the conversation is between Mualla Selçuk and Julian Stern.

Mualla is Professor Dr Dr theol h c Mualla Selçuk, Professor of Religious Education at Ankara University, Türkiye, and Visiting Professor in Islam and Education at Bishop Grosseteste University, UK. Julian is Professor of Education and Religion at Bishop Grosseteste University, and Director of WRERU.

Professor Selçuk talks about how and why she started doing research related to religion and education, having been a schoolteacher when religious education was first introduced into Turkish schools, and about her current research – especially, the Sharing Worldviews project exploring encounter between people of different worldviews. We finish by talking about the future, and I think you’ll be surprised by how valuable a future Mualla (and Julian) see for research in religion and education.
