About this listen
Just the Truth Podcast with Joey Hudson
When crisis hits, it’s often local organizations — not headlines — that step in to save lives.
On this episode, we shine a light on two Upstate organizations working every day to protect the vulnerable, restore dignity, and offer real hope in the midst of hardship.
Joining us is Safe Harbor Director of Housing and Advocacy Michelle Gilbert, who explains how Safe Harbor helps victims of domestic violence and their children find safety, stability, and a path forward — not only through emergency shelter, but through long-term housing, legal advocacy, and survivor-centered support.
We’re also joined by Miracle Hill Ministries President and CEO Ryan Duerk, who shares how Miracle Hill has been serving the Upstate for decades through emergency shelters, recovery programs, foster care, and faith-based solutions to homelessness. As winter storms hit the region, Miracle Hill’s cold-weather shelters are responding in real time — providing warmth, safety, and hope when it’s needed most.
This conversation matters — because domestic violence and homelessness don’t always make headlines, but they affect families, neighborhoods, and communities every single day.
