 Good afternoon. Vermont. I'm DJ Huzz. Step outside right now and you'll feel 48 degrees. In early March. That's just the warmup act. Today we hit 60 degrees under sunshine — 22 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. Tuesday cranks it even higher. Central Vermont reaches 63. Southern areas hit 59. The northeast tops out at 60. These are near-record temperatures for March 9th. Tonight stays mild. Lows drop to 31 in the northeast, 37 down south, 38 in central areas. You won't need the heavy blanket. Then Wednesday flips the script. Rain moves in — heavy at times — with highs still in the 50s. A quarter to half inch falls during the day. Wednesday night brings another half to three-quarters of an inch. That's when the real show starts. Thursday morning a cold front crashes through like an uninvited guest. Rain changes to snow as temperatures nosedive 30 degrees in hours. Highs struggle to reach the low 40s before plummeting to the teens Thursday night. Wind chills drop to 15 below zero. That's the kind of cold that bites. The weekend stays active. Friday brings snow chances with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Lows fall to the low 20s Friday night as snow becomes likely. Saturday continues the snow with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Sunday delivers another round of likely snow with highs near 40. Here's the thing about this week. We're gaining 3 minutes of daylight each day. The spring equinox arrives in 11 days. But winter isn't done yet — not even close. Enjoy the warmth while you've got it.
