About this listen

Each unsolved murder holds a story—of shattered lives, mysteries that linger long after headlines fade. Why do cases go cold? Sometimes, it’s a lack of witnesses or evidence; other times, the crime scene surfaces months or years later, leaving investigators grasping for answers. But for families who have lost someone, the pain never grows old—and the need for resolution remains as urgent as ever.

Utah’s Cold Cases invites you to join KSL reporter Andrew Adams as he digs into these files. With the latest updates on the investigations, Andrew brings forgotten cases back into the spotlight, in an effort to spark new leads and offer families a measure of hope.

  • Killer at the Doorstep
    Sep 3 2025

In the spring of 1984, Andrew Hanson, who went by Jay, was shot and killed in front of his wife and brother-in-law. This 41-year-old case has left investigators puzzled; there is very little information about Jay and the masked killer who shot him on his doorstep. The case has multiple suspects, but not enough evidence links any of them to the crime scene. The only pieces of evidence recovered were a bullet casing, a button, and a lock of hair. Back in 1984, DNA testing was virtually nonexistent, but now detectives with the Weber Metro Cold Case Task Force are ready to use today’s technology to find who the real killer is.

  • Seen, Not Known
    Aug 21 2025

In December 2016, two men were killed and another was left clinging to life after a targeted shooting in South Ogden. Surveillance video shows three masked figures outside the home moments before gunfire erupted—peering into windows, crouching in the yard, and handling a handgun. Nearly a decade later, the cold case has been reopened, and police are still asking: who were these people, and why this house? They’re hoping someone will come forward with information. KSL TV’s Andrew Adams investigates.
