• Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 26:26-30 - Jesus Inaugurates the Last Supper With His Disciples by the Bread and the Cup With Thanksgiving - Prog 105
    Dec 26 2025

In the passage before us, Jesus eats the Passover with His disciples. Passover is a remembrance of an event. At this time our Lord institutes communion, the Lord’s supper as a memorial to Him for His death.

The Lord’s supper is spoken of in 1Corinthians 11:26. The Apostle Paul writes that it is a memorial, a remembrance of a person, the Savior Himself, and His death until He comes again.

Dr. Mitchell brings out the distinct perspective that it is not the value that men place on the blood of Christ, but the value that God places on Jesus’ blood. The Scriptures witness to the numerous times the blood of Christ affects the life of the Christian.

God’s value of His blood is of eternal importance.

Do you and I value this eternal expenditure of Christ on the cross as God does?

    Dec 25 2025

In Matthew 26:14-25, Matthew writes concerning one of his fellow disciples, Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus to the religious authorities.

Judas negotiated with the religious leaders for a price to deliver Jesus to them. They settled on 30 pieces of silver.

Dr. Mitchell shares, from Old Testament prophecy, how God was valued for 30 pieces of silver.

Jesus announced to the disciples that one of them would betray Him. All of them answered with the words, Lord is it I? except Judas. He answered with the words, Rabbi, is it I?

Judas related to Jesus as only a teacher.

The 11 other disciples related to Jesus as Lord.

    Jesus the Lord is God.

Interestingly, Judas was the treasurer rather than Matthew who had been a tax gatherer.

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 26:6-13 - Jesus' Commendation Of Her Personal and Expensive Sacrifice For Him - Prog 103
    Dec 24 2025

Having finished teaching His disciples, Jesus now proceeds toward the cross and the resurrection.

In Mat.26:6-13, Matthew describes an incident which occurred in the house of Simon the leper in the village of Bethany.

This happens two days before Jesus is crucified.

During His time there, Jesus resolves a supposed conflict between the disciples and their misguided priority concerning the expenditure of costly perfume. They all deemed it a waste to anoint the savior with the expensive perfume.

Jesus explained that this perfume was a pre burial anointing. He knew He was going to die and His betrayal was near at hand.

The priority of value should be placed on Christ Himself. He should have first place in all things. He is worthy of our sacrifices.

  • Gospel of Matthew -Matthew 25:41-26:5 - Jesus Teaches About the Nations of the Earth who Fail to Help the Jewish Nation, Israel - Prog 102
    Dec 23 2025

We continue in Matthew 25 where Jesus speaks of the judgment of the nations. This judgment is based on the evidence of how the nations treat the believing Jewish brethren during the great tribulation. This judgment occurs after our Lord has returned to the earth to reign in His kingdom.

In Mat.25:41-46, Jesus next judges the goats on His left hand based on the actions and character of those nations. They either did or did not minister to Jesus’ Jewish brethren during their persecutions.

These goats on the left hand, did not support the persecuted Jews.

In withholding support for these, they were not ministering to Jesus Himself during those days.

Matthew writes these words, for the 5th and last time, “when Jesus had finished these sayings”.

This ends Jesus’ teachings before His crucifixion.

  • Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 25:31-40 - Jesus Declares His Judgment of the Nations By their Attitude and Work For or Against Israel and the Jew - Prog 101
    Dec 22 2025

In Matthew 25 with the sheep and goats judgments, Jesus expresses His personal and intimate relationship to His brethren. This is apparent in His own words found in this passage.

The Lord’s brethren in this passage are the Jewish believers during the great tribulation. And whatever will be done to or for these His brethren will be done to Him. He takes it personally.

Our Lord Jesus expresses this same intimate relationship with the body of Christ, the church.

Jesus confronted Saul who was persecuting the church asking “Saul, Saul, Why are you persecuting Me. And he said to Him, Who are you lord? And He said, I am Jesus whom you are persecuting”. Acts 9:4-5

Jesus is intimately connected to His people even during their persecutions.

Our Lord speaks of the Judgment of the nations which occurs after the great tribulation and after the 2nd coming of Christ, the Son of Man to the earth.

But first, Dr. Mitchell explains 5 judgments found in Scripture.

    1. The judgment of sin thru Christ on the cross 1Peter 2:24

    2. The judgment of believers, known as divine discipline or chastisement either for sin or for spiritual growth and education. Heb.12

    3. The judgment of believer’s works at the Bema seat. 1Cor.3

    4. The judgment of the living nations seen here in Matthew 25.

    5. The judgment of the unsaved at the great white throne. Rev.20

Dr. Mitchell explains these five separate judgments before moving into Matthew 25 verses 31 thru 46.
