About this listen

War. What is it good for? The answer is, of course, simple: it's good for oppressing people who make war. That's the thing it's good for, and that's about it. Today, we learn about the final treaties foisted on the Ute peoples at gunpoint, the tortured math an Imperialist calls "good enough," and the similarities to things happening today.

On that note! We recorded this, like, 4 months ago, so when we're talking about Venezuela, we hadn't even recorded our Venezuela Special Report yet! None of the stuff had happened. Though I'd like to think we did a decent job of looking at the world and going, "hmm. Trouble a-brewin'..."

And last, our next book starts next week, so let's get prepared to read that sucker! We're going to be reading The History of White People by Nell Irvin Painter. It's a book all about class as color in Western history and the multi-millennia parade of dipwads that brought us to where we are today! Strap in, because everyone's gonna be a PhD race scientist by the time we're done.

You can get a copy from the publisher here or any of the other retailers linked there. Join us next week for Chapters 1 & 2 of the book!

Our book is "The Utes Must Go!" American Expansion and the Removal of a People by Peter Decker. I can't find this book from the publisher anymore, so here's a buy link for Abebooks and Amazon. I found my copy in a box of free books outside a bookstore at the mall six years ago. So you could try that too.
