About this listen

In this episode of the LCC podcast, Angelia interviews Ms. Peggy Wells, CEO and founder of the Wells Center for Women in Transition. Ms. Wells shares her journey from volunteering in jails and prisons across North and South Carolina in the early 2000s to establishing a nonprofit dedicated to helping women successfully transition back into society after incarceration. The conversation explores the Wells Center’s signature CATCH program (Changing Attitudes to Change Habits), which provides comprehensive support, including trauma therapy, substance abuse counseling, job training, and family reunification services.

Ms. Wells discusses the urgent need for these services in Forsyth County, which ranks 10th out of 100 North Carolina counties for the highest rate of women exiting jail and prison. She explains that overwhelming demand has led to plans for expansion. The episode also highlights Ms. Wells’ inspiring educational journey, returning to school in her 40s to earn multiple degrees, including a Master’s in Social Work and a Master’s of Divinity, demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue your calling and make a difference in the community.

Right in our backyard, this incredible organization is bringing hope and healing as it meets the needs of women in our community.
