• Evan Deasy announces himself to the world and Lionel Messi
    Sep 24 2025

ON THIS week's podcast, we chat to Evan Deasy, who won the inaugural Más+ by Messi 1v1 World Crown in Miami.

What’s more, the Bandon teenager was strutting his stuff under the watchful eye of Lionel Messi, the Argentinian superstar.

The Cobh Ramblers striker earned his place in Miami after coming through a qualifier in Dublin. Once he landed in Florida, he reached a new level – beating some of the best young talents in the world, including Timmy Abraham, brother of England and Besiktas striker Tammy Abraham, on his way to glory.

Winning a crown and excelling in front of, what some would describe as, the GOAT. What a week for the 18-year-old.

Speaking of GOAT’S, Patrick Horgan retired from inter-county hurling this week, finishing as the top scorer in championship history (as of now) with 32-683.

The Glen Rovers man has left the scene without an All-Ireland medal but will go down as a Cork hurling legend and we pay tribute.

We also discuss an exciting upcoming weekend of club football action where Newcestown, Castlehaven, Ilen Rovers and Gabriel Rangers are looking for semi-final spots.

Newcestown blew the Premier Senior Football Championship wide open with their 0-12 to 0-10 win over Castlehaven, meaning the county champions will face St Finbarr’s in the quarter-final.

Newcestown, led by David Buckley and the evergreen Tadhg Twomey face Carrigaline in the quarter-final.

Clonakilty saved their tier one status by beating neighbours Carbery Rangers 1-17 to 0-6, consigning Ross to a relegation play-off against Valley Rovers.

  • Carbery prepare for county camogie preliminary quarter-final
    Sep 10 2025

ON THIS week's podcast, we chat to Carbery camogie captain Niamh Kennedy and vice-captain Moira Barrett before the divisional side’s county senior championship preliminary quarter-final against Blackrock.

Kennedy from Clonakilty and Barrett from Ballinascarthy are two key players in a talented Carbery side who have only played one game so far, a win over Seandún earlier in the campaign.

This will be a challenging game this Sunday in Castle Road (6pm) in more ways than one for the West Cork division but they are up for the task.

Also on the show, we discuss the upcoming final round of action in the county football championships where Clonakilty, Carbery Rangers, Dohenys and O’Donovan Rossa have huge final round group games.

We look back at the hurling weekend too, which was positive overall for West Cork clubs including Newcestown who went out fighting in the premier senior grade.

    Sep 3 2025

ON THIS week's podcast, we talk to local rugby star Abbie Salter-Townshend on Munster’s Interpro victory as they beat Leinster 50-15 last weekend.

Salter-Townshend was a key component in the Munster squad, starting three out of the four games as the southerners blitzed their way to glory.

Not to mention, she also won the All-Ireland League senior title with her club UL Bohimians earlier this year. Two trophies in one year ain’t bad.

Also on the show, we discuss Ben O’Connor becoming the new Cork hurling manager, replacing Pat Ryan in the hot seat.

  • Reflecting on All-Ireland final heartbreak
    Aug 13 2025

ON THIS week's podcast, we are joined by Ger McCarthy to look back on what was a disappointing day for the Cork camogie team.

A 1-14 to 1-13 loss to Galway in the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland senior camogie final ended their three-in-a-row bid.

We reflect on Galway’s tenacity, Cork’s first-half struggle, the Rebels’ second-half fightback and some questionable refereeing calls.

We look forward too as Ger Manley’s team will be gunning to claim back the O’Duffy Cup in 2026 with Galway no doubt having no plans to let it go.

    Aug 6 2025

ON THIS week's podcast, we catch up with Kilbrittain hammer-thrower Nicola Tuthill after a few successful weeks of action.

Tuthill is enjoying the most prolific spell of her young career: silver medals at both the European U23 Championships and World University Games.

That was followed by a successful defence of her national title last weekend, with a new personal best of 71.75m added in.

At only 21 years of age, she is making serious strides.
