We continue our Building The Salukis Podcast series before Summer Access for SIU Basketball with incoming freshman Jalen Haynes! He Averaged 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds assists, and 3.6 assists per game at Hebron HS, while also being named to the 6A All-Region Team, South Texas First Team All-District in 2023-24. In post grad, he helped lead Sunrise Christian Academy to the National Tournament and averaged 15.2 points per game with the Buffaloes. He shares what he is like away from the court and why he wanted to be a Saluki.

Hawkins in transfers in from nearby John A. Logan College. He averaged 7.9 points per game and 4.1 assists per game. His father, Shane Hawkins, played basketball for SIU from 1995 to 1998 and is the school's career record holder in 3-point shooting.
