At 19, Hyku Desesto dropped out of college and gave birth to her son on the day she turned 20. Not long after, she moved to Dubai—with a plan and a deep sense of purpose. By 22, she was running Hyku D Photography and working with global brands like Netflix, Louis Vuitton, Nestlé, and MAC Cosmetics.

Today, she's one of the most celebrated Filipina photographers in the UAE. She was awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) honor in 2023, won Best Photographer at the Illustrado Women of Substance Awards, and received recognition in Netflix’s Girl Boss Campaign in 2022.

In this episode, Hyku opens up about what it really took to succeed early—sacrifice, self-doubt, and starting before she felt ready. We talk about money, motherhood, critics, confidence, and what she hopes her son remembers about her someday. If you’ve ever felt torn between survival and chasing your craft, this one’s for you.
