A poor mother and her son live happily until one day the mother grows seriously ill. A woman who comes to help them tells the son that he must climb a high snowy mountain to find a certain herb. He willingly goes, and finds adventure.

A painter is setting up to create an enormous painting-- one that will take up the entire courtyard of the temple! When he is told that he must finish by sundown to make way for a holiday celebration, he sets to work, unsure whether his 3 day project can ever be done in such a short amount of time.
