• One Year After CECOT Prison in El Salvador - Where Are We Now?
    Mar 20 2026

In March 2025, a year ago this month, the United States deported 238 Venezuelans to El Salvador, to be immediately and indefinitely imprisoned without trial and without convictions, prison sentences nor release dates. Human Rights Watch considered this practice a violation of national and international laws, and especially human rights violations. In this episode John Carlos Frey summarizes this flashpoint of the deportation agenda and how we have continued to violate the constitution since then.

  • Angelica Salas and ICE Resistance
    Mar 12 2026

Angelica Salas is currently the Executive Director at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, better known as CHIRLA.

She understands the plight of immigrants first hand as she and her entire family lived in the US as undocumented immigrants. They experienced raids, discrimination and deportation then later were able to legalize their status.

CHIRLA, the immigrant-led organization empowers other immigrants and their families to lobby for local, state, and national policies that advance their human, civil, and labor rights. Angelica has led CHIRLA to become one of the nation’s largest and most effective immigrant rights organizations in the country.

CHIRLA and Angelica's achievements include: winning in-state, financial aid and grant programs for California’s undocumented students, establishing day-laborer centers that have become national models, winning drivers’ licenses for undocumented drivers, decoupling local police departments from immigration enforcement, expanding access to immigrant legal services and winning Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Angelica has become a central figure in responding to the massive ICE raids that began in Los Angeles in June 2025, which she describes as a "campaign of terror" and an unprecedented assault on constitutional rights.

She speaks candidly with John Carlos Frey about her personal history and continuing the fight for reform and equal justice.
