About this listen

Maureen Kafkis is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy, the Brain BS™ coach, and the host of The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast. When she learned that the average human brain has over 60,000 thoughts a day and that most of them are lies (Brain BS™) that cause needless suffering, she started to learn how to separate the fact from fiction in her mind and has never looked back. Maureen truly believes that living consciously, understanding how your brains work, and learning to feel your feelings are necessary for an empowering and fulfilling life. She brings her expertise and extensive knowledge to inspire people in the SB area and beyond to learn how to live consciously, tap into their personal power and become leaders in their community.

In a world where there is so much division and way too much focus on competition, the Brain BS™ Coach is promoting a conscious community and lifestyle built on leadership energy, collaboration, and mutual support. She is doing that because the power of the collective far exceeds anything that can be done at the individual level and it’s just way more fun! If we all consciously collaborate with one another and succeed together we can have a substantial ripple effect that will extend far beyond our local community. Listen and learn how you can add value to your own community!

  • 240) Exploring Deep Thoughts with Pete Muller
    May 15 2025

In this episode I speak with Pete Muller who is a creative artist, an accomplished musician, a successful business man, AND the creator of the crossword puzzles for the Washington Post.

Yes it does sound like Pete gets to enjoy a great life and have a lot of fun, but he also works hard and deals with his own fair share of Brain BS. In fact, we talk about imposter syndrome, the pitfalls of external validation, the importance of self-love, how the ego can impact our trajectory in life, and lots of other good stuff.

Pete is always learning new skills and evolving as a human and especially loves to mentor others and support them on their own journey. If you want to be inspired to take action and bring more joy into your life, listening to this episode, because it may be just what you need to take that first step on a new path!

  • 239) Exploring Shame Around the Mother/Daughter Relationship
    May 15 2025

In this episode, I speak with Master Certified Coach and published author
Karen C. L. Anderson. Karen primarily focuses her work on the complexities and challenges of the mother/daughter relationship.

Listen, I think we an all agree that not all of us have a great relationship with our moms or with our adult daughters. What you might not realize though, is that it goes way further back and way deeper than you might realize.

Listen to this conversation and learn how shame, conditioning and generational trauma can make a difficult mother/daughter relationship so hard to handle. You will also discover after listening to this episode that a strained relationship is not abnormal, you are not the only one struggling with this, and there are resources available to you to help you realize you have way more power than you think.

If you are thinking this might not pertain to you because your mother is no longer living, think again!

Relationships continue long after our loved ones leave us, and we can learn to reframe them in a way that empowers us moving forward.
